The Fichtebunker in Berlin's Fichtestraße, once built as a gas storage facility and later used as a mother and child bunker, became notorious after the WW II as the `bunker for the hopeless`. Initially used as accommodation for bombed-out residents, later as a retirement home and homeless shelter, people lived here for decades in extreme conditions. In 1963, the bunker was closed after a murder and due to catastrophic hygienic conditions.

Shelter draws a psychogram of this place, explores the traces of the former residents and makes the space itself the protagonist, speaking of trauma and hope.
